Beyond Your Body Clock: Redefining Fertility & Wellness
Fertility carries a heavy emotional weight. It is a topic wrapped in a silence that many women prefer to navigate privately rather than openly. However, breaking that silence is exactly how we reclaim our health.
On Tuesday, August 18th, Dr. Shanna Pool led an enlightening session held by WOSITA Foundation at STC Conference room entitled “Beyond your body clock: redefining fertility & wellness.”
The discussion pulled back the curtain on the complex physical and emotional factors surrounding fertility, emphasizing that reproduction is a shared journey of biological awareness.
Dr Shanna Pool guided the ladies through what causes such painful experiences and delayed pregnancies – PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), thyroid disorders, endometriosis, cancer treatment, fibroids and polyps. She explained how ageing impacts on reproductive cycles due to depleting follicles. Women are born with a finite number of eggs. Over time, both the quantity and genetic quality of these follicles naturally decrease, a process that accelerates after the age of 35.
The male factors causing fertility and the importance of knowing your body and of tracking your cycles were also highlighted.
Recognizing what is “normal” for your own body empowers women to seek medical guidance early, rather than dismissing severe pain or irregular cycles.
Lifestyle choices, chronic stress, smoking, and environmental heat exposure play a massive role in male reproductive health.
Though attendance at the session could have been higher, the impact on those who gathered was undeniable.
By shifting our perspective from fear to facts, we can build a community where women no longer feel the need to hide their experiences.
Let’s keep the conversation going. Your fertility journey is about much more than just a ticking clock—it is about your total wellness.
The Pillar Leader for Health & Wellness at WOSITA Foundation, Mukta K Benoiton said in her closing remarks that “Knowledge does not give us control over everything in life. But knowledge gives us
choices. And when it comes to fertility, knowing earlier can sometimes make all the
difference.”
The ladies in attendance suffering from different conditions affecting fertility, made recommendations and suggestions that would be shared with the Ministry of Health.
